ChatGPT, the AI-powered chatbot from OpenAI, has completely changed the game for anybody generating text-based content. The implications for RevOps are vast.
Some examples of ChatGPT applications in the RevOps space:
- Website content - The obvious use case. Blog posts, about us pages, etc. Was this article written with AI? We'll never tell!
- A/B testing - Auto-generate text variants for website optimization, sales outreach, and so on
- Social media responses - Want to engage with more folks on social media? AI-generated responses dramatically ramp the volume of posts you can engage with.
So what's the downside?
A common complaint of ChatGPT is that the responses are too generic, thus limiting its utility as a content-generation tool.
But never fear: we've got you covered! Below are our suggestions to create richer content with OpenAI.
Bland prompts yield bland content
The simplest way to get more out of ChatGPT for content generation is to provide more parameters about what you're looking for. Prompts that lack specificity will yield the most generic results.
- Prompt 1: Write a 50 word post about using ChatGPT for marketing content generation.
- Response: ChatGPT is a powerful tool for marketers looking to generate content quickly and efficiently. It uses natural language processing and machine learning to generate quality marketing content from your input. With ChatGPT, marketers can create content that is tailored to their target audiences in a fraction of the time it would take to write it manually. Try ChatGPT today and take your marketing content to the next level!
Not bad, but somewhat blah.
So how can we make it better?
Through hours of trial and error, I've found that three parameters that make AI-generated content much punchier and more fluid.
1. Stylistic traits
Providing an extra parameter explicitly stating what style you want the piece written in will dramatically improve the fluidity of the response.
- Prompt 2: Write a 50 word post about using ChatGPT for marketing content generation. Use a funny analogy.
- Response: ChatGPT is like a chef that can whip up delicious marketing content with ease. With ChatGPT, creating unique and engaging content is as simple as giving it a few ingredients and watching it work its magic!
Much more fluid, but still generic.
2. Tone
Explicitly directing the tone yields a more meaningful response, allowing the "author" to match the response with the intended use case.
- Prompt 3: Write an encouraging 50 word post about using ChatGPT for marketing content generation. Use a funny analogy.
- Response: ChatGPT is like having your own team of expert content marketers and copywriters working around the clock - except they are extra efficient and don't need coffee breaks! From catchy headlines to engaging blog posts to witty jokes - ChatGPT can do it all and help you reach your marketing goals.
3. Audience
The icing on the cake: the intended audience.
It's time to think a little more critically. Use that marketing brain! Who is the intended audience of this content? Including that extra detail suddenly produces content that's nearly ready for prime-time.
- Prompt 4: Write an encouraging 50 word post about the benefits of ChatGPT for marketers worried about technology taking their jobs. Use a funny analogy.
- Response: Don't worry about ChatGPT taking over the marketing world! It's like asking a fish to climb a tree: it just won't happen! Technology can help marketers in their daily tasks, but it won't replace the creativity and insight of a human. So embrace the tech and use it to your advantage!
Now we're cooking with gas. That sounds like something a human wrote!
In summary, providing parameters about the audience, writing style, tone, and purpose of the piece creates much more fluid content.
I'll update this post as I discover more methods for working with ChatGPT.
